Changing my major

I have been thinking about changing my major. Right now I am majoring in Art. I wanted to major in Art so I could have a job as a photographer. I really like photography and I thought I would enjoy taking classes that would eventually help me major in photography which will fall in the category of art. One of the classes that I am taking for my major is Art History which is challenging. I find it really hard to understand that class. Another class that I am also taking for my major is Printmaking class and even though it is easier I find it hard coming up with drawings to print. I just don’t like that to get a job as a photographer I have to take art classes and I really don’t draw good. Another reason why I want to change my major is because I don’t think it’s easy to find a job easily as a photographer. I want to change it to something I think I am going to like and that I know I am not going to want to change it. I don’t want to just keep changing my major because I don’t want to end up taking the wrong classes. I am still thinking what I want to change it to. My goal is to choose a major that I know I am going to like and I know I will not change it, which I know it will be really hard to do.

Getty Conference

For my Art History class we had the option to go to a conference in LA in credit for the final or just take the final. I decided to go to the conference in LA because that class is really hard. I drove with my sister because I didn’t want to go alone. When my sister and I arrived to LA I was feeling really exhausted because we had been in the car for a really long time. Even though we stopped for gas sometimes, I was still tired. The conference was located at a museum called the Getty. When I arrived at the museum I went directly to this room where there were many seats. I thought the museum was so pretty. I just stayed in the conference and listened to different speakers. To get full credit we had to take a picture of us in the conference and also write small paragraphs about what each speaker was talking about. We had to write specific details and not just the topic. I was having trouble writing some of the things that they were talking about because they were talking so fast. I thought that the conference was boring not because the speakers didn’t make the talk interesting but because I just didn’t know what they were mostly talking about. I have never been interested in the topics that they were talking about. On my way home it was the same routine, except this time we stopped to rest for a couple of minutes, we also stop for gas and to get something to eat. I was honestly really happy when I got back home because I was so tired and I just wanted to rest.

Communication Class

I have communication class on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. So far, that class has been interesting. We just had the midterm for that class and it wasn’t hard but it wasn’t easy either. I really like that class because I feel like I am learning a lot. We take a lot of notes in that class which I really like doing. I have always liked taking notes but only when the professor gives us the notes. I don't like when we have to write notes based on what the teacher is saying. Like for example when the professor is talking and we have to write notes on whatever he or she is saying because sometimes they talk to fast. I really like the activities that we do in that class. The professor gives us an activity based on what we are learning which is almost like an example of what chapter was mostly about. She assigned us to do a group project which I think is easy because everyone is contributing their ideas. I sometimes like to work on groups only because the work is much easier. It's easy because while one person works on something everyone else works on something else and then you put everything together to get the final work. I think it takes less time then when you are working by yourself. I think that every new topic we learn is interesting. I have learned a lot in that class because of the way the professor teaches us. Even though she gives us notes we are also expected to read the textbook and take our own notes. I find that really helpful.

Studying

Now that I’ve been in college for six weeks already, I am getting use to being a college student. I have become more responsible mostly because of all the homework that we have to keep up with. I have different habits than what I use to have when I was in high school. Now, I study on time before I have an exam. When I was in high school I did not study weeks or at least days before I had a test in any of my classes. I would usually study 5 minutes before a test. Sometimes I did really good but other times not so good. The times when I did really good was only because I remember what the teacher had taught us in class and the subject wasn’t really hard. Looking over my notes just refreshed my memory from what I had learned in class. It was challenging at times because I would get confused on what the notes were really trying to say and I wouldn’t understand the topic. Now that I am in college and I know what it is really like to study, I find it really helpful. It honestly takes a lot of stress away. I feel like going over notes can help a little but looking at the textbook, reading and stoping to figure out what it is really trying to say is way more helpful. Now in college before an exam, I go over my notes and it makes it much easier because I now know what it’s saying. I feel much better now that I find time to actually study.

Printmaking Class

For my printmaking class most of the work that we do are projects and research on different artists. So far, we’ve finished only two projects and we are currently working on the third one. Before we do each project, we are supposed to research three artists. We either have to draw or print their work to our sketchbook. Then we write a little about the author and put what we dislike or like about their painting. The whole point on doing the research is so we can look at their artwork and that way we get an idea of how we are supposed to do our paintings. The paintings that the artists do are usually about the same topic that we need to do our paintings on. It does help me a lot to look at the different artist’s artwork. I find myself understanding more about the topic of what we are supposed to paint after I have seen the artwork of the different artists. I see what they do and what they don’t do. At first I didn’t know what I was doing but now that I have completed two projects I know what I am doing now. In the beginning it was hard to figure out when I was suppose to put ink to the plate or when it was good to print it to the final paper. Now I feel like I am getting use to doing those projects and I am getting the idea of when the project that I am doing is ready for the next part. With the third project that I am doing right now, I don’t feel lost on what I have to do. I just know what I have to do. Unless I need help from the professor, I continue my work with no problem. I have learned so much in that class.
